Sebaceous cyst removal is a minor in-room surgical procedure performed to remove a benign lump caused by a blocked oil (sebaceous) gland. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic and aims to remove the cyst sac completely to reduce the risk of recurrence. It is usually quick, safe, and does not require hospital admission.
The area is cleaned and numbed, the cyst is carefully excised, and the wound is closed with sutures if needed. A specimen may be sent for histology if clinically indicated. Aftercare instructions and follow-up for wound review or suture removal are included.
Indications include:
• Painful, enlarging, or infected cysts
• Recurrent swelling
• Cosmetic concerns
• Diagnostic uncertainty
